Aiken Car Dealer Charged With Fraud

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Theodore Jenkins Jr. has been charged with three counts of obtaining goods by fraud. Jenkins has operated Jenkins Car Care and Auto Sales on Richland Avenue in the City of Aiken for three years. He was arrested on the allegation of selling vehicles with liens against them and not informing customers.

Jenkins has had a business license since October 2008 but his license is currently delinquent. Officials report Jenkins did not renew his license when it expired in June.

Jenkins reportedly purchased vehicles from auto sale auctions, then sold titles to a title loan business and received a cash loan. He then sold the vehicles for cash at his Richland Avenue business, Glover said.

Customers were told they would get the title in the mail but never did. Each car was then repossessed by the title loan company that held the lien.

If the car will be financed through a bank, the financial institute will keep the title, Britt said, but the customer should be provided paperwork showing that the bank has that title.
